The Kestrel Elite BFS Reel is a new premium offering in KastKing’s expanding lineup of bait finesse products. The Kestrel Elite BFS finesse casting reel offers an impressively low-weight reel with high power capability and extremely smooth operation. The Kestrel Elite BFS features an all-new 28mm shallow aluminum spool called the Feather Spool, weighing in at only 5.6g (including the spool bearing!), making it the lightest stock spool offered of any bait finesse reel to date with the capability to cast 1g lures right out of the box. The all-new Flyout Arc Finesse Braking System offers dynamic braking that automatically adjusts the magnetic power applied to the spool based on casting speed. Constructed with a comfortable and palmable magnesium alloy frame, complemented by carbon fiber side plates, the Kestrel Elite BFS is the lightest baitcasting reel offered in KastKing’s lineup. Weighing in at only 4.4oz allows the Kestrel Elite BFS Reel to be perfectly paired and balanced on even the lightest of bait finesse rods. With 13.2lb of drag from the Carbon Disk Drag System offering precise drag tuning, The Kestrel Elite BFS is a suitable contender against even trophy-sized fish. The aircraft grade 7075 aluminum main gear and 100% brass pinion gear provide the durability and power needed to count on this reel season after season. The KastKing Kestrel Elite BFS is finished with an 80mm lightweight finesse aluminum handle and comfortable contoured handle knobs for all-day comfort while on the water.

I purchased two of these last week (one by accident) and received a few days later. When I received I had some concerns that a $230 reel should “spin” more freely. I decided to fish one all weekend in hopes that like a new Browning O/U shotgun it would break in a bit! I spooled it up with Kastking 8lb braid, dropped it on top of a Loomis GLX 841CBR, and fished it all weekend. What a pleasant surprise… it throws baits a mile! Love this little reel. Really like the oversized star drag…ez to adjust during a fight, like the “clicker-ish” drag too. What a nice little reel! I’m going to keep the 2nd one too!

Without a doubt, this is my favorite reel. I have two higher end JDM reels and I find my self reaching for the Kestrel more often. The feel of the reel in hand is better and while some people may say that it’s overbraked, I’m able to cast 1/32 ounce lures out of the box without any issues. I don’t have anything lighter but it fishes 1/32 better than my Daiwa Gekkabijin. It’s very adaptable to change. I can absolutely HURL 1/16oz jigs across the water. Something I’ve never experienced before. This reel gives me a very satisfying combination of power, accuracy, consistency, and adaptability while on the water and I couldn’t be happier. Might buy another for my trout setup. 🙂
