Joe’s Flies Short Striker Classic is the original fly-spinner combination. Featuring a premium quality hand-tied fly available in a variety of patterns to perfectly “match the hatch” in waterways year round, combined with Joe’s Flies EZ-Exchange clip and an appropriately sized and polished spinner blade the Short Stiker Classic offers a combo of attention-grabbing action and a natural presentation to key in on trout in clear water streams, creeks, and shallow lakes and ponds. Joe’s Flies Short Striker Classic features a single barbed hook (size #8 or #10) on the fly accompanied by a hidden trailing treble attached to the back by a strong nylon loop. The two hooks combine to grab and hold your catch effectively, so even short striking fish are securely caught. Swapping flies is also simple with Joe’s Flies EZ-Exchanger. Once tied onto the line, open the clip to slide off the fly and slide a new one on, making for efficient and quick changes while on the water without retrying the line. Try Joe’s Flies Short Striker Classic for an affordable inline spinner that stands out from the crowd and offers a combination that triggers the natural feeding instincts of trout, crappie, bass, sunfish, and more.

Note: We highly recommend removing the trailing treble hook for catch and release fishing. Cut the nylon loop holding the treble to remove the stinger hook permanently.

I’ve been using these to catch just about every species of fish that swims for years now, so I’m glad to see it carried by BFE!. It’s absolutely fantastic for multispecies fishing, especially in creeks and rivers. I’d recommend adding a small split shot about 10 inches above it on your line, because it helps the lure sink a bit faster, allowing it to cut through current down in the water column. This also increases casting distance, obviously, which is another benefit of adding weight. I typically have more luck when I retrieve it as slowly as possible, only enough to be able to feel it in the water.

The only legitimate complaint I have is that the hookup ratio tends to leave a lot to be desired. Although it may seem counterintuitive, I’ve found that this can be mitigated a bit by not really setting the hook when a fish bites. Instead, I like to gently sweep my rod tip just enough to put tension on the line, since it seems to have much more success than when I actually perform a more typical hookset, as that seems quite prone to missing the fish more often than not.
