The newly released Genius (8.0:1 Gear Ratio) and Elf (6.4:1 Gear Ratio) Bait Finesse Reels are an updated design of the highly popular Tsurinoya Dark Wolf Ultra reel. The Genius Bait Finesse Reel features a revised braking system, an updated spool, and two retrieve speed options.
Built on an all-new carbon frame design, the Genius Bait Finesse Reel features a sleek design, is easy to palm, and weighs only 135g (4.7oz). Featuring an ultra-lightweight spool at only 6.5g (including bearing) and a ceramic cone-shaped line guide, the Genius Bait Finesse Reel is capable of casting as low as 1g weights right out of the box when paired with a thin diameter finesse line. The 30-point externally adjustable magnetic braking system allows for precise and fine adjustment, allowing for controlled and accurate casting. 10+1 stainless steel bearings and precision-cut aircraft-grade aluminum main gear make the Genius Bait Finesse Reel an extremely smooth reel on both the cast and retrieve. Ultra-light handle knobs, a compact carbon handle, a clicking drag star, a clicking tension knob, and an audible drag clicker all add to the list of quality features of the TSU Genius Bait Finesse Reel.

I purchased the slower gear ratio and it’s great. Haven’t pushed the envelope yet as far as going down to the super light stuff, but a 1/64oz jig with a 1.6” plastic, can be cast well.

I just go the genius and I love it. Super tight out the box, cast like a dream. I was able to throw a 5 gram crack bait, a 1/8 oz jig and a heavy fly right out the box. I’d say I have a new found love.

I got the genius and for a first BFS reel I love it did have a bit of a learning curve but I’m throwing 3g top waters and 2g jig after a bit of practice

This reel is a fantastic starter for BFS. Out of the box, this thing can handle 1/32oz and cast about 35-40 feet once dialed in.
I upgraded the bearings to Roro ceramics, and I’m able to cast 1/64oz mule jigs about 25 feet accurately.
Perfect for Maryland mountain creeks and streams.

Great reel for the price. Bought this to throw small cranks but does the job for lots of applications. Definitely a good rod for those getting into BFS.

I had my doubts that anything this cheap would be worth a crap. I have plenty of Shimano and Daiwa reels ranging into the $300 range. This thing is silly good for the price. I rigged it with 10 lb Berkley braid and a 7lb Seaguar Fluro leader on a GLoomis CBR 7′ Medium. If I thumbed it right (slightly letting up letting the spin begin on the upward motion of an overhead cast) I could throw a 1/16 ounce pony jig easily 50 ft. Landed a 20″ Walleye on it with no issues as the drag was surprisingly smooth. Does it feel like a chunk of plastic crap? Yeah. Does it do the job? For me I’ll say yes and I’m a hard sell. If you want to try out this new fangled Bait Finesse $h!t, I mean Sytem this is an affordable way in for sure!

I bought the genius for creek fishing spooled it up with 10 lb braid and it handled the 1/32 swim bait like a dream. I bought a 24″ gar on it reeled it in with zero problems. I love that everything has a tactile click when making adjustments

Great reel for sure I own a decent amount of high end reels and this is so far a fantastic reel for the money. I ordered the Roro bearing upgrade kit for it and wow are those bearings smooth! My one and only complaint about the reel is the drag clicker isn’t as loud as I had hoped other than that great buy!
